Hi D.A. :

This is just a heads up - A new company is starting in 2009.  It will publish novels for women over 40.  In other words, the main character has to be a female, over 40 years of age. She does not have to be black.   The writer's gender and age is not an issue.  All genres welcome:  general, mystery, romance,  historical, etc.  Write to Brenda Frazier for more information. Her email address is: writingtimes@aol.com

All best,
Anita

thank you for the add, yes I am a writer of poetry, mostly passion and love, sometimes I may take a step out of my box and write something that has also touch my heart like my children, I am a single father of two and they are truly my reasons why I do. Later this year my next project will touch the hearts of many, here a look inside Complicated Passions "In love with love"

The Passion

The Essence of a Stranger
“I will forever be”

I will be
the very essence that brings passion to you;
to all you have ever desired
my love will be, unbreakable.

I will be like the stars at night

my emotions shall be as if your world had a hold on me
and that would be endless

My love for you a melody to sing,
for all the joy it will bring, are just moments away
listen to the words I have to say

I will call your name
just to hear the sweetness it will bring,
in my days and my nights even in my dreams

I will forever be
all that you want your man to be,
I am your living fantasy
just to say I am brings joy to me

My love for you complete, holding your heart true,
this is just the beginning of the pleasures
I have in store for you

Hi! Many thanks for getting back to me. An upfront fee of US$500.00 was required for which the following services were received: (a) publication of the book; (b) arranging for the book to be available online for sale via Amazon. com; Borders (www.borders.com); Barnes & Noble (www.barnesandnoble.com). www.fetchit.com; etc. Editorial fees were approximately US$200.00. Marketing material for the book consisting of postcards announcing publication/availability of the book for sale which contained photograph of the front cover of the book, a brief description of the book cost approximately US$99.00. I prepared and distributed press releases for the book which led to radio interviews. As I mentioned the manuscript went to the self-publishing entity on the last Monday in October 2003. By mid-December 2003, I had an estimated date as to when the book would be available for sale to the general public -- in March 2004. The first press release that I wrote and distributed talk about the book and the scheduled release date of March 2004. This press release was distributed to the media, book stores, etc. One of the oldest and largest independent book stores in Phladelphia contacted me upon receiving the press release and asked me to arrange to send copies of the book once it was actually released -- a request I complied with. I met with the owner of the book store at which time he decided to hold a book signing for the book -- IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R)--TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES -- on Father's Day 2004 -- which became the launch date for my "book campaign" .

Now, with regard to marketing the book, when the book was actually published/released, I then prepared an "e-mail blast" which advised that the book had been released. To catch everyone's attention, in the subject line of the e-mail, I had the following message: I'M HAVING A B-O-O-K!

As for the book's ISBN, I wanted to use my own ISBN, but the self-publishing company would not hear of it. Soooo, they assigned an ISBN to my book.

The book is available on online and is currently in stock in several bookstores in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I've kept the book in local stores in close proximity to where I live so that at a moment's notice I can walk into the bookstore and see what's going on with my book if I need to. I handled the marketing and distribution of the book. Online sales of the book are handled through Amazon.com, etc. and the sales are reported to the self-publishing company who then provides a monthly report on book sales and royalty payments. The self-publishing company creates an account for its authors. I just go to my account that has been created for me and review the sales and royalties statements. I relied and still rely heavily on the Internet as a marketing tool for my book.

Going the self-publishing route is and was a lot of fun, and is and was a lot of hard work and long hours. And at the time, I told myself that this was going to be the first book and the last book and that I would never create another book project. Since that time I have changed my mind and have several book projects in mind which I will begin to work on in 2009.

To be honest, I had not planned to have a book published in 2004. It was something that I planned to do later -- in 2006. But friends kept urging me to publish a book about the work that I was doing on Fatherhood.

The final push that I needed to get the book published came from Oprah! I was home one day and my phone rang. No, it wasn't Oprah! A friend -- Charles G. Spellman, Ed.D., a professor at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C. -- who had been observing the work that I was doing on Fatherhood issues called me and said, "Is your television on? If not, turn it on. Watch Oprah! She's talking about Fathers!" So, I turned on the television and Oprah was interviewing about 5 men who were fathers who were talking about, among other things, the fact that they did not have a safe haven to go to share their ideas, dreams, fears, questions and issues about Fatherhood! Well, I thought I had been providing a safe haven for Fathers through the quarterly male parenting publication which I launched in 1999 and for which I was (and am) its Managing Editor. So, I called up my friend and said, "I thought I was providing Fathers with a safe haven to share and explore their ideas, dreams, fears, questions and issues!" So, Dr. Spellman said, "Well, if you want any credibility for the work that you've been doing since 1999 on Fatherhood issues, you'll have to write a book. That's the only way you'll get any credit. It's the book! It's the book!" And he was right! It's the book! It's the book!

I'm available if you have any other questions! Take care!

Thaknkx for the response. I do have a question... was it expensive to self publish. And did the "publishing company" obtain the ISBN # and was it a POD. Who did you handle marketing or did you go threw their internet connections? Is your book in local stores or just online?

Hi DeWayne,

It's great to hear from you. Thanks so much for your support and for the referrals. Congratulations on having your book "Death To Diabetes" becoming Amazon.com's best-selling book on diabetes! I continue to tell everyone about your book. By the way, non-diabetics can benefit immensely from reading your book! I'm happy to learn of your successes. Again, congratulations!

All the best!

Hi Diane,
Keep up the good work! -- your mission is very important to all of us. During some of my diabetes wellness workshops, I talk about the importance of fatherhood (and motherhood), and I have referred several agencies to your website. Hopefully, some of them will follow up and contact you.

And, thank you for inviting me to this forum. Because of unselfish people such as yourself, my book ("Death to Diabetes") is now one of the top-selling diabetes books on Amazon.com. And, they now want me to release my 2nd and 3rd books this year along with the DVD and CD set. That's the good news ...

The bad news? Very few of my customers are African-American, even though they are one of the top risk groups for diabetes. I continue to reach out to the black churches and other homogeneous groups but ...

Maybe, I'll find some ideas in this forum ... anyhow, thanks again for thinking about me.
