FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF….

There was a time when our young people aspired to be like…
Like neighbors across the street or police officers on the beat
Young age, they had someone to teach him or her to fly a kite
Hair cut or plaited and their clothes were worn nice and neat
Teachers worried about children’s education, not their safety
Children were taught to help senior citizens, not rob or kill them
Of really good and supportive adults, children had a large variety
Adults were there to help children and not so quick to condemn
Children had a disagreement they took it to the gym or playground
Guns were not for children but police, hunters and soldiers at war
Adults tried to lift children up, not watch them being knocked down
Taught all children the game plan and what children were living for
Today adults care more about Keno than about raising their children
Only time they become concerned is when their children get in trouble
They cannot see that the road to success for their children is very thin
Adults better wake-up and start coming to children’s aid on the double
It is ludicrous when you have adults helping children beat up other adults
Children out of schools early, instead of going home are causing problems
When children have children, negative incidents are the unfortunate results
From our children having no adult role models are where these things stem
Should be clear to African-Americans that the legal system is not on their side
A father beaten by teenagers and an adult but the serious charges are dismissed
This incident happen in Baltimore, Maryland but such things happens Nationwide
Unless African-Americans start to turn, their lives around such things will persist
Obviously, the News Media relishes in the fact that we are destroying one another
Ratings are up when we kill one another and down when we start showing love
Come on my African-American family; let the world see we can love each other
Show our children we are leaders not just “Following In The Footsteps Of….”

They use every trick they can to take our homes and our lives
We just kill, rob, sell drugs and in one another show no trust
Older men, start teaching young men about husbands and wives
Just what good are adults if we cannot teach children lessons
The lazy good for nothing in us is being instilled in our children
If our young daughters become pregnant, insist on abortions
Parents and adults are no longer someone children can depend
Time to get our young children off “You-Tube” and “My-Space”
Adults, we had better start using the “Web” to learn some real truth
Children can obviously see we are loosing the African-American Race
Face it; it is not our children but adults who are completely uncouth
Instead of saying. “I don’t know what’s wrong with children today”
When our children kill, rob, rape or sell drugs we quickly blame them
Time we face reality, “We are what’s wrong with our children today”
For our mistakes adults, our children we cannot continue to condemn
Fathers, find organizations in your communities that are helping children
Mothers, stop trying to become your daughter friend by hanging in bars
Children today, like yesterday, need you to be more parents than friends
Teach your daughters there are more to men than drugs and fancy cars
Parents are being lazy in everything from too much weight to not cooking
Fast food restaurants are getting super-rich from the laziness in inner-cities
Our neighborhoods are deteriorating and all we do is stand around looking
We have no clue about political organization, committees or sub-committees
Frequent use of the “N-Word” is proof enough that we don’t care anymore
Other races are constantly saying, “Blacks do not care about us or themselves”
The devastation within our African-American Communities cannot be ignored
My Brothers and Sisters, “Do Not Give Up On Our Children Or Ourselves”
GUESS WHO IS PAYING THE PRICE

Why don’t we hear more about the good things our children are doing
We hear about some poor little animals injured or cannot find shelters
When it come to our children, we hear about the ones cops are pursing
There are Great American children, who only the best they are after
Why is it that the media only mention their lives, every once in a while
Reason being, America knows that they will motivate others to follow
They rather project the image that our children are just not worthwhile
How much of this non-sense are African Americans going to swallow
Face facts, if we do not step-up and save our children, no one else will
Are we driving the streets with our eyes closed, not paying any attention?
Promising and financial futures we need to start helping our children fulfill
There must be something wrong with African American’s comprehension
No longer do the police have to go to the firing range for target practice
Just set on a “7-11” parking lot and wait for our children to beak the law
Will take all of us working together if anything we are going to accomplish
From all of this negativity and selfishness we had better start to withdraw
I repeat what I said many times before, “nothing is happening by accident”
One woman fought to get prayer out of school, what can we do as a group
To bring about real change, we must come together, standup and represent
Listen to me, no war has ever been won by a soldier; it takes an entire troop!
Our children are at war with the United States of America and they need adults
African American males are in as much trouble as the Iraqis, America is fighting
As parents, if we do not fight for them, Iraqis are going to have better end results
Trust me; I am not setting at my computer sending this message just to be writing
Our future, which is our children are massively and intentionally losing their lives
My reasons for writing and speaking is to give my Beloved Race, good advice
We must encourage children to get an education and put down guns and knives
As adults it is our denial and stupidity but “Guess Who Is Paying The Price?”

How long are adults going to set around doing nothing but talk?
On our children, our attention needs to be focused and centered
Driving through a neighborhood, a child’s body outlined with chalk
President says, “No Child Left Behind” is working for our children
Is he is telling the truth or at election time, trying to get our votes
We have to come together for our children and change the trend
The horrors on the Evening News is real, better take some notes
News anchors reporting terrible news but our children are living it
Ever just, watch our children walking the streets with lifeless eyes
Standup, take a stand and to our children’s future, less all commit
If we do not, at gravesites we will continue to say our goodbyes
After school in the evenings, they seem not to want to go home
Our young daughters go over their so-called boyfriends houses
Not going their to study but doing the wrong things in a bedroom
To classes they wear way too tight jeans and too open blouses
Do we or do we not want our children to be successful in life
Parental failures and disappointments are children’s downfalls
A diploma and a degree is the key, not drugs, a gun or a knife
Encourage our children to leave the streets for academic halls
Young people must know that they are being set-up for failure
Guess who helping to set them up, we are by doing nothing
Think young people cannot tell when adults do not really care
To our children, adults are suppose to be like a real blessing
Time is running out but it is not too late to “Save Our Children”
Way we are neglecting and disappointing our children is uncouth
They have far too many enemies; they need us to be their friend
We are our children’s future, “It Is Time We Face The Truth”
