Black Author Showcase

Agents of Literary Change

I am struggling to continue writing my second novel and I've hit a rough spot.  I've written and written and then I just suddenly stopped.  I don't know how to begin again.  Now, that's not to say that I haven't written a lot already.  I have about 200 pages from my first writing.  I was so inspired to write this new book after receiving favorable personal reviews from friends and family on Facebook who read my first novel, "Masculine Strength."  I literally wrote nonstop for three weeks.  Every morning I couldn't wait to get back to my new book.  The words just flowed from my brain to my fingers and I had some pretty good stuff.  Now, however, I just seem to re-read that which I have already written.  I've had writer's block before, but nothing like this.  I hope I will soon be able to get back into this new piece of work which I lovingly call "Wish Me Well."  It's a working title, but it may just stick.  We'll see.  Now, if I could just get back to the hard writing once again, I'd be ever so thankful.

Is this a novel or a piece of nonfiction? Sometimes you have to stop and step away from a piece to get a better overall view of your final destination. I'm assuming that you have mapped out your major conflict and your cast of characters and their 'why'.

There are times when your character insists that you write about him/her right then, and other times when they just want to be left alone. This is not a block, its just another part of the process. Don't beat yourself up over it. Just make sure that you are in the right place to continue to tell the story. Daily stressors, health, work, diet and more can get you off of your game.

Writing is a personal journey and I am sure you are ready for the road. Now get to writing! :)
