IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD® (http://globalfatherhooddialogue.blogspot.com), a quarterly international male parenting journal which facilitates a Global Dialogue on Fatherhood turns 10. The publication which is distributed on a subscriber basis in Europe and in selected cities in the United States was launched on 15 October 1999. And the publication’s Managing Editor is a woman and a Philadelphia native -- Diane A. Sears – who is a member of the University Council on Fatherhood and Men’s Studies Program at Akamai University (www.akamaiuniversity.us) in Hilo, Hawaii and the editor/author of a Fatherhood book – IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD®--TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES (www.amazon.com; www.xlibris.com).



Men's health, parenting issues from a male perspective, book reviews on Fatherhood and men's issues, economics, culture, public policy, and education are a sampling of the topics covered in IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R). Contributing Editors to IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R) are from diverse professions and geographic locations. The international quarterly male parenting journal even has a CHILDREN'S CORNER which publishes and essays authored by children and youth. So, who reads IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R)? CEOS, Fatherhood Practitoners, legal professionals, social entrepreneurs, religious and business leaders, authors, musicians, health care professionals and providers and social services professionals and providers.



IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD® resurrects the vision for an interactive Fatherhood Forum which was conceived by Sears' mentor, the late L.T. Henry, an author, photojournalist, sales and success motivation trainer and classically trained jazz musician who performed briefly with The Philadelphia Orchestra and was the former drummer for internationally acclaimed songstress and film and television actress Della Reese. Henry envisioned a world in which Men would work together and share information and resources that would help resolve their unique parenting and health issues. We are now living in the world that he envisioned.




In 2005, the first European Men’s Health Forum was convened in Vienna, Austria which focused on the critical and unique health issues of men and boys and created The Vienna Declaration On Men’s Health which asks, among other things, that policy makers improve inadequate support for men’s health and develop ‘male-sensitive’ approaches to providing health care. In 2007, Denmark enacted legislation which has made equal parenting the law of the land and diminished costly, lengthy, and vitriolic court battles. As a result, separated and divorced parents share equal and physical custody of their children on a 50/50 basis. This means that divorced parents in Denmark -- divorced fathers, in particular – now have equal physical access to their children.



On April 27, 2009, Timothy Murphy, a United States Congressman from Pennsylvania and United States Congressman Baron P. Hill of Indiana introduced into the 111th Congress, H.R. 2115: Men And Families Health Care Act Of 2009. If enacted into law, The Men And Families Health Care Act Of 2009 would establish the nation’s first Office of Men’s Health in the Department of Health and Human Services.



And on June 19, 2009, The Honorable Barack H. Obama, President of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate moved Fatherhood to the national radar screen when he launched a National Conversation on Fatherhood at the White House in Washington, D.C.


Fatherhood has become more than about raising children. Fatherhood has become a movement – a global movement – a movement that is transforming legislation and public policy.
