I Claim America
I claim America
From birth to grave.
From the time I could read,
I recognized my gift of freedom
I have loved where I am.
Even when girls my age
Had their lives dissolved,
Disintegrated in churches
I loved my country.
Even when pushed aside,
Shunned and ignored
I could look up and see
The letters of freedom,
A dream, an idea
The wall in reach,
Real.
When I protested and
Resisted
It was but love for American ideals
From which I stood,
Hand over heart
Reciting.
My red, my white, my blue
I claim it, and tomorrow
I shall own it.
