Day 7 and there is still a core group of about six or seven participants who come to the sessions regularly. YES! We talked about the importance of the journal writing and discussed ways for them to stay on track. On this Friday session, The participants read and discussed the short story, "Salvation" from my book Psalms of the Daughter. I asked the participants to work together to write their own short story as a group about anything, they ended up writing a short essay about the recovery program. I assigned a guided writing assignment that I'm looking forward to reading on Day 9.
Chalk Day 8 up as another awesome session. We were graced with the talent of Ms. Tracy Eaddy, author of Sunken Treasure. She performed a couple of her poems and used music and poetry to lead the participants in a guided writing workshop. She challenged the participants to dig a little deeper. She spent almost two hours encouraging and coaching the participants to write from their hearts. It was a great activity and everyone was fully engaged - what a day!
