I saw something on the news this weekend that blew my mind and I just had to share! Have you heard about the trouble Fisk University is having? One of "our" institutions is in the red and stands to lose accredidations and just like with Morris Brown, FAMU, and my almer mater, Central State the media seems to be hell bent on promoting only the negative. This is one of the main reasons that I wrote The Black College Sabbatical - FALL QUARTER and its follow-ups WINTER & SPRING QUARTERS...to display the positivity, the nurturing, the appreciation for the past, and the dedication to building leaders that only HBCUs care enough to provide. This is the part of the black college experience that the media doesn't show. I'm going to help as best I can and I am hoping you all will do the same! Remember the old saying "It Takes a VIllage..." well you know the rest. Starting today thru the end of the month of March, I will donate a minimum of 1% of my royalties from the sales of The Black College Sabbatical - Fall Quarter to the Fisk University general fund. I AM TRULY DISTURBED BY THIS LATEST IN A LONG LINE OF TROUBLING INFORMATION COMING FROM FISK.I SENT(FINANCED) MY DAUGHTER TO THAT HBCU. AFTER RECEIVING HER UDERGRAD DEGREE WE BEGAN APPROACHING OTHER COLLEGES CLOSER TO OUR HOME IN CHICAGO FOR HER POST GRADUATE WORK. ALTHOUGH SHE GRADUATED WITH HONORS NOT ONE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY ACCEPTED HER. WHEN I FINALLY SPOKE WITH SOMEONE IN ADMISSIONS, IT WAS IMPLIED THAT SCHOLASTIC ACHEIVEMENT FROM HER SCHOOL WAS SOMEHOW BELOW THEIR STANDARDS. SHE RECEIVED HER MASTERS FROM FISK BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW ANGRY I WAS? WHEN OUR HBCU'S CONTINUE TO LOOSE EDUCATIONAL LEADERS WHO CAN USHER THE YOUNG ADULTS FORWARD TO MORE DIVERSE INSTITUTIONS HBCU'S ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.DURING MY DAUGHTERS TIME THERE WERE AT LEAST FOUR DIFFERENT PRESIDENTS. EACH ONE TOOK SOME HISTORICAL ASPECT OF FISK AND EITHER CHANGED OR GOT RID OF IT. DON'T NEED TO BE NEGATIVE BUT JUST SHARING OUR EXPERIENCE. I WISH I HAD AN IDEA OF WHAT TO DO, OTHERE THAN OFFER MONEY. BECAUSE IN MY MINDS EYE I HAVE PAID ENOUGH OF THAT-SMILE.

I commend you for what you are doing. I unfortunately never attended an HBCU during my collegiate career (which I regret), but would love to do something to support these grand institutions. If WE don't support our institutions, who will?
