Black Author Showcase

Agents of Literary Change

Well, the reports are in from the first few people who have read or are reading my novel. For the most part it's pretty good-- the characters are said to be interesting and true to their personalities, the story moves along, although there are some rough spots, and the reader's reactions to certain parts are just what I was looking for. On the other hand, everyone agrees that it could have used some more stringent editing, a flashback near the beginning of the novel could have been more clearly defined as a flashback to avoid some confusion, and one person complained that there's too much going on... All in all, not too shabby. I'm prepared for the negative as well as the positive (although of course I'm hoping to hear more positive than negative). Any news is good news as far as I'm concerned because it means that people are at least reading it! The most important thing is that most of the readers "GET" my characters. My characters seem 3-dimensional to them and that's mainly what I was striving for. My next novel will also focus heavily on the characters, so I hope it works just as well... except that this time there will be more editing! Promise.

Today is my day off from work, as well as a holiday, so I'm going to try and relax. I'm also nursing a cold that's been just too stubborn to go away. I placed a new battery in my truck yesterday and it seems to be running like its old self, I'm waiting for my property owners tax rebate from the city (about $400.00), I'm trying to convince some talented young people that work for me to take their talents to the next level, I'm still having trouble trying to figure out what to do with my hair (as you can tell from the photo, it's gray), I'm working on three paintings but for some reason don't really feel like it, I applied for a new position (a promotion really) at my place of work, a DIRECTOR job! That's big timing it! Top pay 102,000.00 per year, but do I really want it? Can I handle it? Who cares? Take a shot and let the chips fall where they may (hopefully into my bank account!), I need new shades for my porch room, I'm seriously considering wooden ones in cherry or mahogany color, I think Teisha's attractive, I'm getting ready to get back to playing my PC game, "Rome: Total War", I need to start walking more and maybe get back into working out (I used to box), my daughter's cat is in heat and it's annoying the heck out of me, and that's about it since I usually don't ever talk this much. Ciao!
