The setting of the novel is south Florida. An African-American father struggles to impose his imprint for success on his five sons. Power Douglass realizes too late the fatal consequences of his patriarchal domination as his sons reach their troubling adolescent years. A single father since the death of his wife, Hope, Power sees the militaristic structure he has built with fear and manipulation suddenly crumple like a sand fortress. This first novel speaks to family relationships in the midst of wounded male egos. An African-American Father raises five sons on his own. He is so blinded by his own hopes and dreams for his sons' future, that he fails to consider their individuality. In an ill-fated "father's day" reunion, he tragically discovers the truth about his sons, but it is too late. Masculine Strength is a look inside the complexities of an unusual American family.
