KEEP FOLLOWING YOUR DREAMS!

Going the self-publishing route is not easy, but nothing in life is worth having unless worked for!

I just wanted to let all my fellow BAS members know that after two years of trying, Barnes and Nobel retail has finally agreed to carry my novel, E-Males. They have placed an order for 200 copies.

As you know, it's far easier to get B&N on line to carry your book on their website than to get it into their retail stores. However, I'm here to tell you: Don't give up!… Continue

BAS Hall of Shame

Besides Martin Johnson-Pratt of Kulturefirst, I'd like to add another opportunist to the list, Anisa Tahir of Tahir Books as per a former BAS member who quit this site in disgust. Here's the email he sent me:

Looking for Services for Self-Published Writers

As you know, I will be doing a lecture and book signing on November 2, at the Roosevelt Public Library. This is not the first, and most likely will not be the last, time I have been asked to share advice on the topic. Fledgling writers often ask me for referrals to ghost writers, copy editors, editors, printers, distributors, promoters, and so forth. If you offer any of these services, please send me some of your business cards. It would be my pleasure to distribute your information at this… Continue

BE A VICTOR, NOT A VICTIM

First of all, thanks so much to everyone for their heartfelt responses to this matter. It has given me an unprecedented opportunity to get to know my new "friends" better. I appreciate the fact that so many of you took time out of your busy lives to share your insights and perspectives.

Secondly, I want to apologize for the numerous blogs and comments you may have received from Mr. Pratt. It was never my intent to subject anyone to the subject beyond a theoretical… Continue

Are African American Authors the New Victims???

I self-published my book for two reasons: 1) I felt I had a message worth sharing with the world through my novel, E-Males. 2) I wanted to make some money!!!! LOL.

Just like me, many of you are having a hard time achieving the second goal. We do everything we can to promote our work, get our message out there, but the experience can be extremely frustrating and downright depressing. And it is at these times when we are most despondent about our prospects for increasing sales, when we… Continue

Unprofessionalism: Why Black Americans Fail to Prosper

Self-publishing has taken me on a incredible journey full of new people, places, and experiences. I found support from unexpected places, and this has done my heart good. On the other hand, I am continually stunned by the lack of professionalism of our people. I don't want my comments to turn into yet another racist diatribe against Black people which merely blames the victim. I know that our lack of professionalism stems in most part from internalized racism. Yet, there comes a time in every… Continue

E-MALESONLINE.COM IS HERE!

Well, I finally finished my new website for my book: http://Emalesonline.com.

The website is more than just a place to buy the book. It's full of advice on internet dating and on-line romance. I have been dating on-line for over ten years successfully, so I felt it made me an expert. I was sick of reading advice about internet dating from people, like Dr. Phil, who had never done it!!! Eventually the site will include a blog and forum. Last, but not least, I will publish the best…

Free Advertising Is Easier Than You Think

Want some free advertising? Consider approaching your local community newspaper and offer to write a column or series of articles in exchange for free advertising. Many community newspapers operate on a shoestring budget, and often jump at the opportunity for some free content. I have gotten free advertising by writing articles and was actually offered a job as a section editor! That meant my photo and bio ran every week, and it was great advertising for my novel E-Males, and I was doing what I… Continue

Advice on Exploring Erotica in Your Writing

MediaBistro's Morning Media Menu had a conversation with author Jamie Brenner about advice for writers looking to explore this newly crowded genre. An excerpt from Brenner: My first erotic novel came out two years ago. The landscape feels completely different. There is not just the hope to reach a mainstream audience with erotic novel, but the expectation that success is reaching everyone, not just the genre readers. Fifty Shades of Grey really raised the bar for that. At the same time, working…See More
