The Perfect Man

The Perfect Man

 Ladies please don’t be jealous,

but I can’t contain my joy.

I had to tell somebody.

I fell in love with the perfect boy.

You laugh and say I’m foolish.

No man like that exists.

I tell you that you’re wrong,

you’ve never met a man like this.

He worships the ground I walk on,

and he knows me inside and out.

He tells me that I’m beautiful

at times when I look my worse.

When I cry,…

Bound by Time

At all times I am yours,

for all time you are mines.

The potent glue that seals us;

we are bound by time.

Lost in the moments,

the seconds fly by,

But the memories that exist

are endless, if only in our minds.

Husbands chained to their wives

gladly awaiting death to depart.

Parents attached to their children,

invisible strings tug at their hearts.

But our love is not held

together by vows or by…

THE LAND OF DISGRACE

Inside a world of pain, the core of poverty

A chain of events, the world refuses to see

There are children dying, abused & misused

Slain in the streets, killers on the news

A child is born a junkie, grows up to be a whore

The neighbor is a thug, or a pusher next door

Momma is a barfly, roaming self-pity streets

Her children at home starving, not enough to eat

The landscape is a picture, not for a magazine

If you see it in a… Continue

From the book Mood Swings: A Heap Sees....

You thought they were intelligent because they had a degree,

Thought they were nice, well groomed and elegant

Because that's all they let you see

It never occured to the trusting mind

The dirt and foul odors facades leave behind

What you see and hear ain't always so

There's a heap that sees and a damn few that know

The man that will break your heart is always kind,

You'll never know the carnage he left…

Poem form the book Midnight Alley: Anthology

I think of Ellison not being seen

And the agony of Huges' deferred dream

I muse David Walker's appeal

I think of Elizabeth's unconscionable school days

Plessy's trolley ride ordeal

The churches that were maliciously set ablaze.

Billie's bitter crop

Miles and Satchmo

The Rosewood nightmare that wouldn't stop

The cottonseed they had to sow.

They helped me to understand

And gave me a nutritious place to…

Advice on Exploring Erotica in Your Writing

MediaBistro's Morning Media Menu had a conversation with author Jamie Brenner about advice for writers looking to explore this newly crowded genre. An excerpt from Brenner: My first erotic novel came out two years ago. The landscape feels completely different. There is not just the hope to reach a mainstream audience with erotic novel, but the expectation that success is reaching everyone, not just the genre readers. Fifty Shades of Grey really raised the bar for that. At the same time, working…See More
