MAN WITH THE GOLDEN WINGS
by
Vernon J. Davis Jr.
It is Christmas Eve
and the snow is falling
on a lonely little house
in the countryside.
Come..., let us go inside and listen.
In this house, a little girl lies asleep
in her bed.
But sleep she doesn't stay, for she's
awaken by a…

[A sample poem taken from the spoken word nightclub scene of Eddie Johnson's novel: "Love's Wicked Game"]
Love is meant to stand the test of time
It’s not all about flowers though lovely
Nor being whisked away to stay in foreign towers that reach to the sky
You should tell your mate you love them each and every day
Love is meant to stand the test of time
A warm feeling within your innermost soul that can be felt by the person you graciously hold
Whether that person is young or old
Yo…

A NUBIAN KISS
by
Vernon J. Davis Jr.
In the deep dark
I thought they were Her lips
Waking me up
But who I saw
Was not She(Syawla)
Breathing in my face.
The eyes I didn't recognize
Yet,...so close to mine
And when she floated
Back a step,
She was new,
A soft shadow,
A Nubian Ser…

...Poem originally published with The Black Collegian Online...
Incandescence
A shining child's missing mile
Swells with his sleeping death
Upon the pile.
Chosen to warm the frozen basket core,
Shining child's walked a noble's road before;
Hopeful of vanishing before the cup,
Born banished, he rises

Hi all,
This poem by my favorite poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar seemed worth sharing, in the spirit of Black History Month (not that its message should be confined thus):
Best,
Anthony
FREDERICK DOUGLASS
By Paul Lawrence Dunbar
A hush is over all the teeming lists,
And there is pause, a breath-space in the strife;
A spirit brave has passed beyond the mists
And vapors that obscure the sun of life.
And Ethiopia, with bosom torn,
Laments the passing of her noblest born.
She weeps for him a mother'…

Sitting here blogging entangled in time....
My first book is almost complete, the second is done and I'm scared s***less to start the third one....
My fundings looking low...
Is this how this writing thing is suppose to be?....
Not sure which way I should go but, I know it must be forward....
Feeling like I'm suspended in time...
Paused and distorted with my world on my shoulders...
This writing thing has to work for me....
The typical 9 to 5 just aint cut out for me....
When you see where you'r…

His voice is H.O.T.
HOT
like liquid fire heating up my flesh
he's giving me 104 degrees of fever.
As perspiration lightly dances across my breast
with each drop he's touching
every centimeter of my body
leaving no spot of my chocolate sweet flesh unattended.
Line after line he speaks
lights me up inside
like fireworks
at the brightest 4th of July display.
His flow is fluid
with a movement smooth as silk
tying my wrists to the mahogany bedpost
embracing my tender ebony curves
wrap…

Thinking out loud
Conversations start flowing
Voices whispering
Ears hot from gossip.
Body language suspicious
Eyes accusing
Fingers pointing
Necks rolling.
Hips swaying
Feet tapping
Hushed silence
Movement in the shadows
Time stands still.
Imagination awakened
Foreign languages spoken
Accents exaggerated.
Momentum growing
Smiling lips
Laughter echoes
No one even notices that I'm sitting here…Invisible.

They said that we were nothing...
No more than sheep and cattle...
They stole us and sold us on blocks in the center of town...
Chained us and beat us while others looked on...
They raped us, molested our babies and belittle our men...
They tried to steal our identity....
Crush the freedom we held within...
Put the laws on our heels when they told us we were free...
Put strange fruit upons limbs of trees that made poor momma weep...
Had us afraid to sleep when a full moon was in the horizon....…

Dedicated to those single people who are looking for someone...stop looking and let God do the work.
God's Mold
God will bless me with a chaser
And I don't mean alcohol
I am talking about a man who believes in that old fashion love
He will pursue ME and when he catches me he will never let go
I am a creature of my father God
Unique and divine in every aspect
Perfect in His eyes
I'm here to school those
Who can't appreciate that lovin that only your Grandma can talk about
I'm here know…

Cool People
Bring blessings
like mountain breezes and well water
Soothe
as warm thoughts do
Heal
like spiritual energy
Conspire with the universe
to benefit a doubting world
Cling to confidences
like silence to stillness
Listen
when they need to be heard
Dedicate
purpose to words
Judge themselves
by integrity of life and love
Appreciate you
your dreams
Permeate
humanity with youthfulness
Inspire reachers
to unveil the richness
of God’s grace
Beauty-filled people

Fragile Heart
A heart is fragile and must be protected...
I didn't want to hurt anymore
So I took the keys and I locked the door
And I built icy walls of brick
So strong and thick were they
That just one look would turn away
Anyone who might cause pain.
Then you came along and acted like
you didn't see the walls, the doors, the lock
And tenderly you lit a candle near a block
And there you knelt
And waited for the ice to melt…
Then there was a warmth my heart felt.
As brick by brick beg…

MAN WITH THE GOLDEN WINGS
by
Vernon J. Davis Jr.
It is Christmas Eve
and the snow is falling
on a lonely little house
in the countryside.
Come..., let us go inside and listen.
In this house, a little girl lies asleep
in her bed.
But sleep she doesn't stay, for she's
awaken by a bright light instead.
The light comes through her bedroom
window with warming colors.
And when she looks out her window,
she sees a man with wings on his back.
G…
