I have a man
but does he have me?
I don't know because he stays in the street
more than he stays with me.
So I ask myself.
Is he an asset or a liability?
I clean his house, cook his meals, take care of
the kids and pay all the bills.
I even give him his cheap thrills.
So what does he do for me?
Nothing I can see.
So I ask myself.
Is he an asset or a liability?
All I ever wanted was a man
with a dream.
Someone I could call my king.
With ambition and drive.
motivation and determination by h…

APPRECIATION;Doesn't matter what you cook, I'll eat it. It may not taste like a delicacy, but I'm going to eat, cherish & appreciate it like it is. The least I could do is help with the dishes, rub your sweet feet after I dip'em in ice cream, lay your head on my chest & tuck you away in a dream. As my grandmother would echo in Church overwhelmed with grace, mercy & goodness."You didn't have to do it...but I thank you"

[A sample poem taken from the spoken word nightclub scene of Eddie Johnson's novel: "Love's Wicked Game"]
Love is meant to stand the test of time
It’s not all about flowers though lovely
Nor being whisked away to stay in foreign towers that reach to the sky
You should tell your mate you love them each and every day
Love is meant to stand the test of time
A warm feeling within your innermost soul that can be felt by the person you graciously hold
Whether that person is young or old
Yo…

Today, for reasons I have yet to determine, my late, paternal grandmother weighs heavily upon my already ultra-engaged mind. Malinda Cartwright was a force of nature - a "piece of work" to be sure. This East Texas-born mother of nine, born…

I heard a radio pundit recently scold his listening audience about the condition of our minds. He was talking about what he called the “Tim Man Syndrome” that many are experiencing in our culture. I must admit, I was a bit confused as to the point of his commentary until I made the connection to the Wizard of Oz where the Tim Man was lost, searching for a brain, and wanted the Wizard to give him one; when in fact he had a brain all along. He just needed to use it. The pundit’s closing statement…

I am going to start by saying I am appalled by the actions of the Grand Ol’ Party’s treatment of Supreme Court Nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Since I’ve lived through segregation, Jim Crow and have experienced racism - I should not be surprised. Actually, this behavior was reminiscent of days long past when the likes of Strom Thurmond and George Wallace espoused their vision of America. The tone used against the justice during nominating hearings was such a sad commentary on the part of these “S…

Forsaken coasts, who has tread her black sands?
And allowed her bitter waters to brush upon the feet that is bare.
Bare, vulnerable to the scorched minute pebbles of glass;
That compacts between the toes while you’re on your way, on a mission.
Not one in a million, more like millions in one,
Little masses all in my way,
Even the waters gobble them out from shore,
I still find more and more in my path, all in my way.
I dread treading the never-ending floor the ever-singeing shore,
Don’t…

MAMA
by
brburns.com
Mama
Mother of the earth
Center of my universe
My rock of gibraltar since the day of my birth
Mama
My bridge over troubled water
My Mother
My friend
And my father
I see why God chose a woman like you
To send the Saviour of the world his Son through
Mama only mamas can do the kinds of things that you can do
There’s only one you and only you can do what you can do
Like teaching me and showing me how to tie my shoe
And teaching me to recognize the colors
Red and yellow and g…

Being a mother has been the greatest gift that I could receive besides LIFE!
I thank God for loaning this precious gift to me to raise the right way,
to protect, love, feed, clothe, educate, and then set free to take flight in this world on her own.
Pray all that I taught and her experiences along the way will be positive and prosperous.
Teaching her about God, I know she will be fine, just as I was taught the same.
Happy Mothers Day to all, and May God Bless you on this Lovely, Enduring, Gr…

Loves Trellis
Sleepwalking since spring
Being in love is such a fragile state
A timid daredevil
Filling the empty with anticipation
Of approaching joy
Butterfly flutter by
Love is the principal passenger
Casting spells
Upon the heart
Kissing the tears of lonely
Erasing the absence that came before
The echoes of a thousand fears
Fall on silent ears
Love lives simply
Though the rainbows arch
Painting the rising sun
Brightened eyes escort glowing smiles
Slow dancing with sunrays
Lingering ja…

Easter (Season of LOVE)
Good Friday HIStory unfolds
FATHER has blessed humankind
With the ultimate sacrifice
Blood of HIS SON
Cleansing our Sins
Within HIS suffering
Acceptance of Truth
Easter Sunday
HE is RISEN
Resurrection
Of JESUS
HIS LOVE
Is ever present
Flowing and eternally growing
Can you feel it?
Rebirth
Whispered in warm tender winds
Softly penetrating welcoming souls
Delicate tulips in pastels
Bloom and beautify
Virgin lilies
Baptize the atmosphere
In Purity
Nature is suffused
In flor…
