EveryDay Life is MG Hardie's debut book, for which he is already drawing comparisons to playwright/director Tyler Perry and George C. Wolfe. Hardie's book has even been compared to such movie titles as, The Wood and The Best Man. EveryDay ! Life tells the humorous story of a hardworking young father trapped between the world in which he lives and the life he wants. It is the tale of one man' struggle against his environment and against the odds. EveryDay Life is a humorous, eye-opening philosoph… Continue

A few months ago I posted this excerpt from my novel "Just a Season". I received a very special heartfelt request from a devoted follower asking me to repost “Granddaddy’s Lessons”. Although she calls herself “a fan of my thoughts,” I call her my friend. Therefore, I am honored to repost this message that I feel delivers a powerful message and I hope it will enlighten, empower, motivate, and touch your heart as well.
Today we live in a world where there is no more Granddaddy to share that preci… Continue

I heard a radio pundit recently scold his listening audience about the condition of our minds. He was talking about what he called the “Tim Man Syndrome” that many are experiencing in our culture. I must admit, I was a bit confused as to the point of his commentary until I made the connection to the Wizard of Oz where the Tim Man was lost, searching for a brain, and wanted the Wizard to give him one; when in fact he had a brain all along. He just needed to use it. The pundit’s closing statement… Continue

I am going to start by saying I am appalled by the actions of the Grand Ol’ Party’s treatment of Supreme Court Nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Since I’ve lived through segregation, Jim Crow and have experienced racism - I should not be surprised. Actually, this behavior was reminiscent of days long past when the likes of Strom Thurmond and George Wallace espoused their vision of America. The tone used against the justice during nominating hearings was such a sad commentary on the part of these “S… Continue

EveryDay Life by MG Hardie is a book that goes against the traditional literature grain. It has once again produced a book review that may go down as one of the best book reviews of the 21st Century. One of Hardie's first book reviews compared him to Tyler Perry, while comparing EveryDay Life to movies such as the The Wood and The Best Man. Subsequent reviewers have referred to EveryDay Life as “Brilliance”, “Masterpiece”, and setting a “New Literary Standard”. EveryDay Life was named The Best K… Continue

It has been a very, very long time since I have read a play. With that said, even I realize that “Every Day Life” is not your typical play. Hip, although a dated word is the first one that came to my mind. We are a fly on the wall with four African-American men in the Long Beach inner city in the late 1990s. While the guys were hanging around smoking dope and talking, they taught me more than I could ever imagine.

Most book readers don't put too much worth in book reviews these days. There are so many reviews and they quite often are all over the place. Much of the distrust of a book review has to deal with the fact that many review sites are bias or worse, paid to review a book. Let's see tou have African-American book sites that don't review African-American books and Hip Hop sites that don't review Hip Hop books what is really going on here? We have all had it happen to us a we buy a book with glowing… Continue
I came across this article, Reading Too Much Into Race, written in the Washington Post thanks to Bernice McFadden’s Facebook page. The article basically talks about December being National Buy a Book by a Black Author and Give It to Somebody Not Black Month and why this holiday is necessary for African American authors. Essentially it comes down to African American authors not being marketable to mainstream audiences.
Of course my thoughts are quite the contrary. With the proper editing, mercha… Continue

PREFACE
Doll collecting, in general, is listed among the major hobbies enjoyed by people throughout the world. This includes black-doll collecting, which I have been blessed to enjoy as a passion since 1991. Collecting black dolls provides a reconnection with my inner child. It allows me to see the complete innocence of childhood in its unadulterated, unmarred state. Collecting dolls is an escape from the sometimes harsh realities of adulthood. In most instances, complete joy is derived from c… Continue
