Gossip Line by Nanette Buchanan - My Summer Release -

How often do we listen to the radio and wonder why the media perpetuates the gossip, rumor and drama?  Ratings strive on the negative and drama that is lived daily.  Television shows want the reality, radio shows want the audience to chime in and bury those who have fell victim to the perils of life.  Imagine a desire to change the tone, change the point of view, make a positive change.  Imagine hosting a prime time show that would quell the gossip, rumors and drama? Imagine a host giving…

What Does “Growing Up” Or “Coming-Of-Age” Mean To You?

In my opinion, the phrase “coming-of-age” means different things to different people and age groups. Here are two questions to ponder: Is there a particular age we all reach that is supposed to be the grand number of maturity and wisdom? Do people considered as grown-ups reach that “magical age” where they know…

Undiscovered Talent: A Writer to Watch

Undiscovered Talent: A Writer to Watch

Canadian writer, Russell Brooks has created an innovative way to build a fan base for his action thriller novel, Pandora's Succession. He hired an actor to read serialized excerpts of his novel and even had the recording scored by a professional composer. The result? A compelling story worthy of editors' and literary agent's attention.…

DAY 28 - I'M A DREAMER! - THERE'S ONE IN EVERY FAMILY!

PICTURED ABOVE: Shirley Murdock & brburns.com

Tonight as I sat backstage at The Sanger Theater in Mobile, Alabama, waiting on my cue to take the stage in the stage play - THERE'S ONE IN EVERY FAMILY(Heaven Ain't That Hard To Find!), I started thinking about how much I LOVE THE THEATER! Thanks to Curtis Von, for allowing me to be a part of his production. And thanks to all of the wonderful people that I had the opportunity… Continue

DAY 3 - HOLDING MY HOPE! "Keeping Hope Alive!"

How do you stay excited about your goals and keep from slowly slipping into a slump? How do you "stay motivated" to "stay motivated" when you're "not feeling motivated"?

YOU LOOK UP AND PRAY - STEP BACK AND BREATHE... And then - You reflect back on the excitement that you had at the moment that you gave birth to your goal! You remember how hopeful you were that it would "come to pass"! You pick up the pieces and rearrange the plan!

"Hope is the feeling that… Continue

DAY 2 - BE GRATEFUL!

I am EXCITED and feeling GREAT right now. No, not because the sells of my book have not gone through the roof yet, but I am still rejoicing. Why? Because I am so grateful to have a vision. I am grateful to have a goal. I have had so many conversations with people who don't have goals. People who lack passion. I know a lot of people who just exist. I COULDN'T BREATHE WITHOUT HAVING SOMETHING TO WORK TOWARDS!.

"The right angle… Continue

DAY 1 - ENCOURAGE YOURSELF! - Celebrate The Small Steps!

Today is the first day of my New Mission(ONE MILLION BOOKS ACROSS AMERICA in 90 Days). I woke up this morning eager to check my website, to see how much closer I was to my goal. My excitement was quickly diminished as I realized that I only received 3 Book Orders(*SIGH* 3 Books down and 999,997 MORE TO GO!). As I sat here slowly slipping into the dimensions of discouragement, something that my Co-Host Dee Spencer has often said, came to mind: "Never frown at SMALL BEGINNINGS, because… Continue

FROM THE HEAD TO THE HAND, PART 1: Making your dreams a reality!

As I begin the NEXT stage of my journey - to the NEXT level of my life, initial thoughts of - "Can I really do this?", begin to surface. I quickly reflect back to the day that I got the idea to write a book - the day that it was just a "thought" in my HEAD. And then I fast-forward to the day that the book came and I held it in my HANDS - WOW, what an awesome feeling! It was that feeling, caused by a single idea, that I had to let sink-in. The idea of… Continue

Earth Squadron - Science Fiction Project Beginning

The dream of blacks making science fiction as a concept has been in the minds of many of us since we were all children watching science fiction movies and television shows such as Buck Rogers, Star Wars, Battle Star Galactic and Star Trek. Most of us have however, found that the characters that are ethnic, as a general rule most often have been relegated to secondary roles, sidekicks, stereotypes, sex objects, dope heads, not in the show at all or my… Continue

Borders Bookstore?

Okay, so I was walking through a local Borders Bookstore when I noticed that they had POD, Independent, and self-published novels on its shelves. So I inquired as to how I can get my novel on their shelves and the manager gave me a number. I called the number and was told to submit a copy of my novel, along with some other info, which I did. So now I'm waiting to hear whether they approve of my novel. I'd LOVE to see it stocked on a store shelf!

Advice on Exploring Erotica in Your Writing

MediaBistro's Morning Media Menu had a conversation with author Jamie Brenner about advice for writers looking to explore this newly crowded genre. An excerpt from Brenner: My first erotic novel came out two years ago. The landscape feels completely different. There is not just the hope to reach a mainstream audience with erotic novel, but the expectation that success is reaching everyone, not just the genre readers. Fifty Shades of Grey really raised the bar for that. At the same time, working…See More
