His-Story vs. Our Story

May 6, 2012

by Alberta Parish

In the ancient world, a long list of deities have died and was miraculously resurrected from the dead. Even Julius Caesar supposedly died a martyr's death, and was resurrected as Divus Iulius (Divine Julius) after his murder…

The Meaning and Purpose of Judges

Today’s discussion will focus on the book of Judges from the following prospective:

a. The author

b. Date of its writing

c. Background

d. Purpose

e. It’s content

f. Personal application

There is Rest in Jesus

Matthew 11:28-30

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

It has come to my attention that some of my readers are struggling under the weight of difficulties, our scripture text reminds us of Jesus’ invitation to come to Him regardless of our problems. Jesus recognized that there were going to be problems in our lives regardless of the cause; whether it sickness, financial difficulties or family struggles it remains a problem… Continue

Faith in God through Jesus Christ

1 John 5:1-5

In this week’s blog we will look at some key lessons in faith as “faith is based on our knowledge of God’s Word and His character” (Spirit Filled Bible).

In faith we as believers look forward to the second coming of Christ and we know that we will be transformed into Jesus’ likeness when He returns. Because of our faith we are confidence in our witness to who Christ is and the love that God, the Father has shown to all mankind as the Holy Spirit bare witness… Continue

Caged

Caged

Freedom to dwell wherever I tread

Not confined to locations with boundaries

Zoning, districts, busing

Unleash me so I can roam free

To see mountains and rivers and trees of all sorts

To open up and breathe in fresh air

Somewhere where the sky is not blocked

but in plain view

Uncage me so I can go FREE.

A Blank Sheet

A Blank Sheet

They enter blameless into this world, like a blank sheet of paper.

New, fresh, clean, spotless,

Just waiting to be written on,

Who will be the first to write?

Will it be Ms. Incest, Mr. and Mrs. Poverty, Madam Rape to name a few?

Or, maybe Sir Death will sign in before the others do.

The Heart That Keeps On Beating

THE HEART THAT KEEPS ON BEATING

It has the most important job. Wounded yet it never skips a beat. There is no gluing or stitching involved, it just continues to work, as if oblivious to attacks.

It’s a wonder and many are in awe of it. It’s the pumper of life.

Sometimes it’s carelessly handled and is crushed easily.

Many are not conscious of its fragileness. It is the holder of emotions and takes a direct hit when trampled upon.

Shattered, broken and… Continue

Which do you choose the gift of God and eternal life or sin and death?

Romans 6:23

Our topical discussion is based on a personal decision that each individual must make when deciding whether to accept God’s free gift of salvation that gives us the inheritance of eternal life or reject God’s gift of salvation and spend eternally separated form Him.

In making our choices we must remember that there is a spiritual warfare that is raging between God and Satan and our choice will determine where we will spend eternity as well as how we live our… Continue

The lack of sound doctrine

Colossians 2:8

In pondering what to write this week and after much meditation while reflecting on society as a whole and the many false doctrines I felt compelled to talk about the humanist philosophies and doctrines.

In our scripture text, Paul warned the Colossian church to be on guard against all philosophies, religions, and traditions that teaches human existences and functioning independently from God. The false teachings that was occurring during Paul’s day was those… Continue

Advice on Exploring Erotica in Your Writing

MediaBistro's Morning Media Menu had a conversation with author Jamie Brenner about advice for writers looking to explore this newly crowded genre. An excerpt from Brenner: My first erotic novel came out two years ago. The landscape feels completely different. There is not just the hope to reach a mainstream audience with erotic novel, but the expectation that success is reaching everyone, not just the genre readers. Fifty Shades of Grey really raised the bar for that. At the same time, working…See More
