QUIET WHISPERS

In homage to Yvette Cade*

And here I stand.

Quiet whispers silenced

by the desire

to see you as my truth.

messages went unheeded

while I danced to your music.

Problems, warning signs ignored

because the you that I adored

remained my fantasy.

Staying because of what I wanted it to be

not because of what it is.

Embarrassed to admit I might be wrong

Stubbornly believing I could make wrong right

I chose to stay and…

Revolutionary Me

Marcus, Malcolm, Mumia, and Huey planted the seed,

for Revolutionary Me.

Being beat by the police at 17,

was the conception of Revolutionary Me.

The unwarranted harassment and checks for id,

strengthened the embryo of Revolutionary Me.

If there were no PG County police,

there might not have been the…

"OLD FRIEND, NEW SEASON" (a little Flash Fiction)

And so, I’m thinking…I know this is not happening! But, that’s not quite true because in actuality, I do know its happening. As a matter of fact, it’s happening in my face—right now. Maybe I could pretend to faint like the folks on TV and get out of it that way. Or maybe I should just be…

Love Ain't That Bad...Is It?

Love ain't that bad...is it?

     How many times have you said "i love you" and you knew doggone well that you had more love for the piece of toilet paper you just flushed than you did for the person you just said it to?

      Maybe you said it in the heat of passion. Maybe you said it out of guilt. Maybe you said it to be polite. Maybe you said it because you were standing at the alter in front of the the Pastor and two hundred and fifty guests, and  "uh...I like you a…

Bound by Time

At all times I am yours,

for all time you are mines.

The potent glue that seals us;

we are bound by time.

Lost in the moments,

the seconds fly by,

But the memories that exist

are endless, if only in our minds.

Husbands chained to their wives

gladly awaiting death to depart.

Parents attached to their children,

invisible strings tug at their hearts.

But our love is not held

together by vows or by…

Deaf Ear

Hello..?

Hello..!

I know you heard me

walking around here

saying the samething

You act like you don't hear me

when I'm talking all softly to you,

now that I'm yelling,

Then you start screamming and shouting,

calling me all kind'ah names,

before you start crying!

Baby..?

Baby..!

Don't do that ma, please..

"Would Dr. King be Disappointed?"

THE DEADWILEY TRUTH

OP-ED COLUMN

Would Dr. King be Disappointed?

By Eric M. Deadwiley

January 17, 2011

What would Dr. King say if he were resurrected today? I truly believe that he would be disappointed by the corruption, greed and inertia of the civil rights organizations today. Dr. King and other civil rights leaders fought tirelessly for blacks to have fair access to jobs, education and the freedom whites enjoyed.  In the…

Just Venting- Did I Step on Your Toes?

Life Of An Ethnic Writer

Okay everyone... what am I blogging about today? Good question!

Well, how to play nice even when you're not feeling very nice. Sometimes, we are put in situations that require us to step above the non-sense circling in our minds. The nitpicking - finger pointing drama that we fall into more times than not. If you are able to set aside the jumble that crowds good reason than you will be ale to enjoy alot more events.

Well, IDK...

When majority over rules…

I'm Gone

I’m Gone

By Nate Spears

Warm and hydrated

As I

Twist and turn my own bottle cap

Pop

Release the air;

Just Excitement

Packed inside,

No Co2

Refreshing it is;

To quench your thirst,

With achievement;

I drink from success

In doubts,

I’m not believing;

Seeing

Past trends

Brings ends

Ended by strokes;

I won’t strike out,

Or collapse

From your heat

Or your smoke

Scream,

Nope;

As I take…

Take It Back!

Today is a good day, I realize all the power that I possess! I am

clearly in a creative mode today! I also realize that we do not get what

we desire by wishing but by doing! I bought a red key to go on my key

chain, which represents the gates of hell! I use this as a reminder that

God gave me the power to take back what the enemy stole from me or what

I allowed him to have because of my being distracted in a certain area

of my life.

I believe that we all… Continue

Life of a Rose

I’m there beneath the ground the bud that you can’t even see.

Then love walks by and waters me

I feel the coolness of the water and I began to breathe

I stretch my arms, my legs began to stretch out.

The roots of my legs fi nd foundation in the

thirst quenched by the water of love.

You nurtured me to grow.

I feel the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the shade

The warmth of your hugs and the shade of your protection

I’m no longer afraid to come… Continue

Advice on Exploring Erotica in Your Writing

MediaBistro's Morning Media Menu had a conversation with author Jamie Brenner about advice for writers looking to explore this newly crowded genre. An excerpt from Brenner: My first erotic novel came out two years ago. The landscape feels completely different. There is not just the hope to reach a mainstream audience with erotic novel, but the expectation that success is reaching everyone, not just the genre readers. Fifty Shades of Grey really raised the bar for that. At the same time, working…See More
