What Is The Gift In This?

What's with that title "What is the gift in this?" Well, it's a long, short story. I was scanning the Forgiveness Project page (of which I am a supporter) and happened upon a story that once again proved the power of books. The writer Aqeela Sherrills, an ex-gang member; told the story of how the reading of one book - James Baldwin’s The Evidence of Things Not Seen created the shift…

Chirstmas the Reason for the season? Here is how I see it.

My Christmas Letter

I have long left the idea of a Santa Claus behind me and I have knows the story of baby Jesus in the manger since I was old enough to walk. I grew up like many waiting with baited breath for this time of year because of what I thought it meant. My mind was on gifts and presents. As much as I could I expected a gift from everyone that…

MY CHRISTMAS POEM

MAN WITH THE GOLDEN WINGS

by

Vernon J. Davis Jr.

It is Christmas Eve

and the snow is falling

on a lonely little house

in the countryside.

Come..., let us go inside and listen.

In this house, a little girl lies asleep

in her bed.

But sleep she doesn't stay, for…

Happy Holidays - A Love's Troubadours' Reflection

Blessings All,

As I slow down and reflect on the past year, I thought I should take a few moments to say thank you to everyone who supported me with their love, light, peace, positive energy, prayers, comforting words, wisdom, laughter, time, talents, gifts, networking expertise, e-mail promotions, reading eyes for my many novel drafts, listening ears for all of my stuff, word of mouth advertising, blog interviews, online book…

Could I Pour my Poetry all over You?

I mean...

I'd love to baptize

you face first

and let the lyrics

lather upon your cheeks...

Or would you rather me

allow the verses

to gather

within the liquidy stanzas?

...As the mantra

inside each soap sud

when chanted

is equivalent to

13 face rubs

while the immersed muse

diffuses

any chance of negativity

from occurring...

When I drop the…

The Pros & Cons Of Booksignings

Booksignings technically are meant for promotional purposes. Fortunately, i've been able to garnish sales out of them as well. But most authors are not aggressive or outgoing so book signings may not be a good medium to look for sales.

There are alot of things to consider like, travelling expenses, time and whether or not store patrons will be able to come back and purchase your title at the store once you leave. For starters if the store does not carry your book and it is out of the… Continue

Top Tier

Ain’t been all good

all my life, but, ain’t done

nothing that bad, either.

Wonder if I will go to heaven

or whether I will go to hell?

What about people

who’ve bombed, burned

and stole the steeple?

They’ll surely go to hell.

But is there a hell-hell?

Like a second tier,

for killers, rapists

molesters, pedophiles and

white people --

Given the hell they’ve

maintained for

colored people, bombed,

burned… Continue
