Barack Obama and the Altar of Greed

By David Michael Green

March 20, 2009 -- Barack Obama is dumber than a bag of hammers.

I never thought I'd say that about the guy. I thought he would probably disappoint me with many of his policies. I thought he would probably fail to be bold enough for his times. I thought he might miss opportunities to do great things because of his seeming desire to be Mr. Rogers, complete with cardigan. But I never expected him to be really… Continue

Reflecting on the Cruelest Months

By Angeline Bandon-Bibum

"April is the cruellest month,"[1] wrote T.S. Eliot in his poem, The Waste Land. This line seemed to ring true in April of 1994. On April 6, 1994, a cruel course of events would begin in Rwanda. A planned and organized massacre was executed by people across all classes from the poor subsistence farmer, to the middle class schoolmaster, local administrators, and other government officials. There have been genocides throughout human history, in continents all… Continue

"Bro. Enoch, I understand your premise & points, and while it is useful, it is not new. I would suggest, humbly, that the framing of your argument needs to be examined. First of all, there is no such thing as a "Black ruling class" in this country -- Black folks don't run anything. The experiences of Cosby with NBC, Oprah, etc., Graves at Black Enterprise, etc. make this all to clear. "

The ruling class is all around… Continue

It has never been a literary agent's job (nor do they have the time) to give writers a page-by-page analysis of what is working or not working in a manuscript or book proposal. So, they send out various forms of rejection letters. These letters (while necessary) do not give you any idea what the real reasons are for the rejection or how to fix it.

Book publishers operate in the same manner. When I was acquiring projects as a Random House Senior Editor, I received at least 60 packages… Continue

From the book Nocturnal Poetry...

It ain’t too much a difference between the wise and the dumb.

The wise not dumb enough to have simple minds,

And the dumb aren’t wise enough to read the signs.

Both are parallels going in opposite ways,

Usually lost causes cause they end in the same place.

And at the same time not realizing the reality

That we casually become casualties,

When we don’t focus on what’s vital in our… Continue

Ain't It A Shame

Ain't it a shame how females laugh when males call them ho's and

bitches... at a time when we are the richest...we've ever been, I think

it's a see young girls shake to the beat, of those degrading

rap songs...when it took so long, to get pass the "bedwarmer" phase,

and now these days, it seems we forgot... about the "sista's that

stopped..the negative images that were everywhere...does anyone

care, that the next generation may never see, females that… Continue

Beauty Queen

Big-boned , plus size, heavy-set..these are the names I get...when
I walk down the street, it's how everyone sees me,but in my eyes I'm
pleasingly plump..a little thick, Hell! no I ain't no skinny chick, but
does that mean I'm not beautiful?, does it mean I can't be the bomb...
does this extra weight take away from my charm? my upbeat
personality, my dreams..does it mean I can be a beauty queen?

Reflections Of My Soul

Reflections of My Soul - My Journey of Faith is a book of poetry that i wrote in hope of expressing some of the feelings and emotions that I has experienced in a period of eight months.

I wish to share with people MY hopes for the future and explain the moods that I went though in his time of crisis. I believes that people need to realize that we have to look after each other and lift each other up through these life storms.

Here is one of the peoms from my book… Continue

When did I allow jealousy to creep in?

When did I allow jealousy to creep in?

I guess we both made choices we can’t take back

But lord knows I wish I could back track

I tried to alter my thought process

So I could put these evil thoughts to rest

But I’ve allowed confusion and curiosity to rattle my brain

until my mind starts to wander like a runaway train

I’ve allowed pride and anger to lead my heart

And just like that thoughts of you &… Continue

some contracts more 'sacred' than others: auto workers contract wages cut, yet AIG execs get bonuses

The Sanctity of AIG's Contracts

By Glenn Greenwald

March 16, 2009 "Salon" --- Larry Summers, Sunday, on AIG's payment of executive bonuses:

We are a country of law. There are contracts. The government cannot just abrogate contracts. Every legal step possible to limit those bonuses is being taken by Secretary Geithner and by the Federal Reserve system.

Associated Press, February 18, 2009:

The United Auto Workers' deal with Detroit's three… Continue

Freedom to dwell wherever I tread

Not confined to locations with boundaries

Zoning, districts, busing

Unleash me so I can roam free

To see mountains and rivers and trees of all sorts

To open up and breathe in fresh air

Somewhere where the sky is not blocked

but in plain view

Uncage me so I can go FREE.

A Blank Sheet

A Blank Sheet

They enter blameless into this world, like a blank sheet of paper.

New, fresh, clean, spotless,

Just waiting to be written on,

Who will be the first to write?

Will it be Ms. Incest, Mr. and Mrs. Poverty, Madam Rape to name a few?

Or, maybe Sir Death will sign in before the others do.

The Heart That Keeps On Beating

It has the most important job. Wounded yet it never skips a beat. There is no gluing or stitching involved, it just continues to work, as if oblivious to attacks.

It’s a wonder and many are in awe of it. It’s the pumper of life.

Sometimes it’s carelessly handled and is crushed easily.

Many are not conscious of its fragileness. It is the holder of emotions and takes a direct hit when trampled upon.

Shattered, broken and… Continue
