Like cradle songs, sweet lullabies to rock the world
I seen what you and me never be
Young, strong, fine brown things
Walkin with they lips turned to the sky
Lips turned to the sky ripe as plums for kissin
Or singin or flirtin or doin whatever is
Young, fine things do with they lips
Girl, talk to me bout a smile
I member a time I could get one halfway goin
Now seems a smile falls down for it reaches my face
Maybe you could sit with me
Sit and tell me what it feels to be you
To be you I could settle into the downturned
corners of your mouth
Be July, be the suckled breast of a storyteller, be you
And know in you what I know in me, a valley
Torso sore from night after day after night
bein torn away from
Ourself
Come sit with me
Tell me what it feels to be you
A griot given pages but the story
Stolen
