I am the author of four books; Let Me Tell You What Mama Said, a story of a black family from slavery through WWII. Take it From the Top; a sequel to Mama Said about Philadelphia during the 1960s; Mood Swings; a book of poetry and prose capturing the range of humanity and Midnight Alley; gives voice to what is repressed and silenced in the midst of spiritual genocide. Each celebrates our elders and othr who made our hisotry rich and gives a place from which to reap wisdom and strength. My you tube channel is nightowl 5869. I also do spoken word.

With profound sorrow

I lost my father March 21 of this year. I lost my mother October 19. To loose both parents in the same year is an unspeakable sorrow. They were married for 62 years. I am their only child. In honor of them I offer you this poem celebrating the life of my mom and dad. It is entitled The Honor and the Pain:

You thought they were intelligent because they had a degree,

Thought they were nice, well groomed and elegant

Because that's all they let you see

It never occured to the trusting mind

The dirt and foul odors facades leave behind

What you see and hear ain't always so

There's a heap that sees and a damn few that know

The man that will break your heart is always kind,

The churches that were maliciously set ablaze.

Billie's bitter crop

Miles and Satchmo

The Rosewood nightmare that wouldn't stop

The cottonseed they had to sow.
