- I am a huge fan of science fiction. I live it, dream it, breathe it. I want to see a greater number of black readers and writers of this genre. The black presence in science fiction and fantasy is sorely underrepresented. If more of us saw ourselves as heroic space adventurers or valiant sword-wielding warriors, then major bookstores across the land would be well stocked with scifi/fantasy titles written by black authors. Why? Because there would be a black readership demanding such titles. And the market cannot be denied. Therefore, I am doing what I can, through my own works, to increase the black presence in a genre that absolutely needs it!! Long live science fiction!!!!!!!!!

Soapbox: I believe that as more people gobble up black street lit, romance, etc, you will see the popularity of black spec/fantasy increase. "Pimps in Space?" Maybe, but reader's appetite for Afrocentric novels that offer a wider view of our existence is growing in many directions. Ride the wave? NO, let's build the wave.
