Escape From Shaolin
Synopsis, by Tony Elliott
When thirteen year old Caz is transplanted from Brooklyn to the isolated and forgotton borough of Staten Island, New York he is shocked by the sudden attack on his neighborhood by Rosebankers, white boys who hop out of cars and smash the car windows in front of his building with baseball bats. Caz streetfights the white boys by day and robs them at night, his payback for slavery and white oppression. It’s not only whites he has to navigate though, living in the savage Park Hill and Stapleton projects. Surrounded by drugs, violence and despair Caz finds a way to graduate high school three days before being sentenced to prison for his robberies. He joins a black nationalists group called the white robes who believe that whites are devils but he soon questions the teachings and becomes an enemy Scar, a sadistic convict doing life in prison who doesn't want Caz to make it out. Starting in the late seventies, Escape From Shaolin takes us through the eighties, nineties and to the new millineum with touching, tense and action packed scenes that follow a boy determined to beat the odds while struggling to become a man .
