My bio: Anita Diggs has worked as a book editor for Random House, Time Warner Trade Publishing and Thunder’s Mouth Press. She has lectured across the country on the topics of novel writing, book proposal development and how to get a literary agent. The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, C-Span, The New York Daily News have interviewed her. Columbia Journalism Review placed Ms. Diggs on their “The Shapers” list for the year 2000. The Shapers is a list of prominent New Yorkers who shape the national media agenda.
I know that you don't know me but my name is Patricia Neely-Dorsey. I am from Tupelo,MS. I have just recently published a book of poetry entitled "Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia: a life in poems" (Feb 2008).
EVERY time that I do a poetry reading. I mention you and your book in my introduction. I use a quotee of yours used in book review in for the Tupelo Daily Journal Feb 10,2008 done by a fellow ole Miss alumni of yours Todd Vinyard. You said: "being a Mississippian brings with it a certain obligation to know your history, good or bad, because someone is always going to ask.(One of the first questions I used to get when interviewing for a job outside of Mississippi was , 'How could you stand living in Mississippi?' My routine answer was 'Have you ever
been to Mississippi?' Their response was usually no. That's when I would sigh and begin extolling the virtues of the Magnolia State. it's not that I don't seethe flaws, but home is where the hear is right?)"
It is suh a perfect introduction for my book...and lie I said, I use it EVERY time! and, of course I will use it again in acouple of weeks when I do a Lunching With Books review at The Lee County Library. Your ears should be burning because your name is ALWAYS in my mouth. I would love for you to read my book and tell me wajt you think. Where can I send you a copy. Maybe you could even send a review or article about the book back to The Daily Journal...I'd be an instant celebrity in town with such an impotant journalist ascknowleding by book.(smile)
Like, I said I would love to send you the book for you to read and help me spread the word. I'm trying very hard to get it heard outside of the state. I hope to hear from you soon.
P.S. Please check out my page on blackplanet for a sample of a few of my poems
