A Season of Dissonance
Memories float
in kaleidoscope fashion
distorted,
clear,
and vividly displayed.
Close enough
you can reach
and touch them,
yet so distant
you struggle to recall.
Likewise conflicted
you find your body,
comforted and soothed
by familiar thoughts;
startled,
disturbed,
and pierced with pain.
The storm is over
but still it rages.
The embers have darkened,
yet still
they're aglow.
Complete gratitude
spars with anger.
Whispered prayers
battle with shouts.
Discovered answers
raise more questions.
Blessed assurance
wrestles with doubt.
Quiet comfort
argues with fear,
while joyful smiles
drown in tears.

I admit,
your latest attempt
was lofty
and ambitious,
but pity,
nor victory
will be dealt
to you.
No, just another
crushing blow
and once again
you'll shamelessly
go down
in defeat.
