Most of Your Friends Are As Fake As They Come

Most of Your Friends Are As Fake As They Come
By Alberta Parish

Jesus, the most perfect man to ever walk the earth, had this one friend named Judas Iscariot. Judas was one of the original twelve disciples who walked with Jesus, claimed to have known who Jesus was, ate with Jesus, laughed with Jesus, but Judas was also one of those friends who stole from Jesus, and had eventually betrayed Jesus. Judas had a treacherous heart, which led to his thievery and his betrayal of Jesus to… Continue

Things That Agginvate People!

Written by Alberta Parish

Many times, various things agginvate us so much so that you feel like screaming, but you know you have to keep calm. You have to learn to control your anger. Agginvate is a new terminology in the English language, which has the same definition and connotation as aggravate. But, agginvate is derivative of the word ‘aggin’. In other words, agginvate means ‘aggravated by an aggin’.

I can list ten things that agginvate me… Continue

Today Is A New Day by Alberta Parish

Today is a new day, because Barack Obama is our 44th President of the United States. Today is a new day for not only White America and Black America, but for all of America. Today is a new day, because I have another chance to correct or obliterate all my past mistakes. Today is a new day, because I have a chance to petition God for His grace and mercy. I know that His grace and mercy are renewed day by day. Today is a new day for new relat… Continue

Usersville by Alberta Parish

Usersville, a new terminology introduced into the English language, is a quiet, quaint and small corner in every city in America, which is flooded with individuals who specialize in using people. In Usersville, you are ten times more likely to cross paths with all manner of shady individuals. These are usually people that feel the world owes them something. Therefore, they use this mentality to justify their shady practices. Surprisingly, the Holy… Continue

Slavingitus: A Degenerative Disease That Causes Blacks To Show Signs of a Slave Mentality by Alberta Parish

Slavingitus, a degenerative mental disorder commonly affecting only Black Americans, is also an airborne disease that causes only Black Americans to have an acute slave mentality. This disease, although affecting Black Americans all across the United States, has a thousand more cases among blacks that live in the Southeastern part of the United States. However, the highes… Continue

Hello Alberta,
Nice to meet you. Do you have poetry related to jazz or music? My upcoming book will feature my jazz paintings with related poetry.....thought I'd check to see what you have in that genre.

Thanks for your time.

We were recently in the ATL . . . Diane was at the book club conference and I attended the Black Doctors convention. Your city is a great place for rising black writers. . . .We need more events there that can attract folks from around the country and promote AFRO lit. BTW, keep writing. Your voice should be heard . . .

Black Voices: a poem
Copyright (c) 2004 by Alberta Parish

Living in a country that is threatened by black self-expression
No wonder the powers that be work overtime to silence influential voices
New black writers are forever struggling to make it in the game
And some have been trying for years to make a name
In an industry where legitimate national and international bestselling black authors come far and few between
Some black children can't tell you about two books written by bestselling authors, but they can spit rap lyrics that are filthily obscene
Gangsta rap gets greater marketing on radio and TV than any other form of black music
I listen to hip-hop, but can we also listen to lyrics about subjects other than bling-bling
And sneakers
And white T's
And screwin' a bunch of hoes
What significance does all this really have
The hip-hop community has the power to start a revolution
But within its ranks, there's too much violence and confusion
Rappers tossin' threatening lyrics back and forth at each other
While-in ghetto neighborhoods-dead bodies keep piling up one after the other
And black children keep catching cases one after the other
Like the late Tupac sang: "It's time to make some changes..."
It is high time the black community does some rearranging
Before Tupac was gunned down in '96, he nearly began a revolution
And if it wasn't for that East Coast vs. West Coast bullshit
He might still be alive right now making more hits
After him, every effort was made to silence influential new black voices in music and literature
But they could never silence our voices
And our writing and music grew stronger
They never understood that our writing doesn't just come from the mind
It originates from our soul
This is why I wanna see more black fiction expanded beyond urban crime, romance, and drama
I wanna write and read fiction where black characters are not heavily underrated
I wanna see more black fiction turned into film
And less character assassination of black people in films
