Chapter 1
Changing Faces
Kevin and Ann Lee Grover were in the midst of raising their three children. Caroline is the middle child and only girl.
Caroline Grover is a tall thin child. Her skin is a beautiful caramel color complimented by bright brown eyes. All of the adult ladies would kill for her silky tar black hair.
Looking at such a beautiful child, intelligent beyond her years, some would say she is destined for greatness.
Caroline and her brothers Carl and Charles didn’t have to leave their home. The Grandparents Henry and Alicia Brooks eagerly took over the massive house.
The Grover children’s grandmother Alicia Brooks aged well. A hint of how pretty she was as a youth shows through her smooth tan skin. Her natural salt and pepper hair is worn in a neat bun at the nape of her neck. Her piercing black eyes betray her innermost thoughts. Agile for an older woman, she moves with the grace of a gazelle. Her tongue is equally as swift.
She treated everyone as though they were beneath her. Alicia felt people should strive to get to her level. She saw herself as superior to the common folk of her surroundings.
Alicia loved God and her family. She was cordial to her neighbors but never too friendly. For all the years she lived in the neighborhood she never invited them in to her home.
Alicia’s daily routine was working the land, cleaning the house and praising the Lord.
She was called by her first name in church once. Her reply was “I am Mrs. Brooks, I don’t recall formally being introduced by my first name,” her lips curled up, those cold black eyes challenging. “Are you part of my family? Those are the only people who I allow to call me Alicia. I shall be called Mrs. Brooks unless you are of blood relation?”
The member stared in disbelief at such unchristian like behavior. Alicia’s menacing smile didn’t fade as she watched the fidgeting member fumbling over her apologetic words.
Alicia felt she was deserving of the ill begotten home of her less than God like daughter.
