A re-post of a previous blog that I did on another site...

I love comic books. I also love movies. That's actually my field of interest....

In recent years, we've been inundated by Hollywood with big budget super hero comic book movies. You have the X-Men franchise, the Spider Man Trilogy, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, the return of Superman and Batman to the big screen, and more recently, the upcoming release of Ironman. You also have a Wonder Woman movie in the works. One thing that you notice about all of these heroes....they're lily white.

Black comic book movies are few and far between. The only good Black comic book movie (in my opinion) was Blade (1 & 2; didn't really care for 3). Meteor Man and Blank Man were completely asinine and garbage. From what I hear, there is supposed to be an upcoming Black Panther movie with Wesley Snipes. but, with his recent legal troubles, who knows WHEN that will be released.

To get to my point....you had a successful cartoon based on a Black comic book character called Static Shock, created by Milestone Comics. They were an "independent" 'multicultural' comic book company that was distributed by DC Comics in the early 90s. The cartoon was quite successful, and gained the character some prominence. So....why no movie about this particular character?

One reason given for the lack of Black super hero movies is that you don't have very many well known comic book characters to choose from. Either that, or they don't have very interesting powers. Static was a freaking cartoon, a popular one at that! I may have my issues with Milestone's politics (more with the co-owner Dwayne McDuffy), but I think that Static Shock would make a good, if not great, comic book movie. As it is, I'm tired of seeing Hollywack kill my favorite comic books with these awful adaptations, changing the storylines around or the characters. what do YOU think about this situation? Do you have any other suggestions for potential black comic book super hero movie(s)?

I'm in total agreement. I think that something could be done with Hancock?

Probably. I can't really say, since I still haven't seen it yet. But, from what I heard, the film left MUCH to be desired...

I also forgot to throw in Catwoman. I think that it could have been done so much better had they taken the character more seriously...
