Agents of Literary Change

Multicultural Literary Advocacy Group (MLAG), through our Living In Color Literary Awards, strives to support literacy and bring recognition to authors of books written by and about people of color, depicting contemporary life in the United States of America. We honor and promote these authors by rewarding the literary excellence of their work.

Who Is Eligible?
Authors currently residing in the United States of America who are of African, Asian, Asian-Pacific, Hispanic, Native American, or Middle-Eastern decent.

Which Books are Eligible?
Books published or released between November 1, 2008, and October 30, 2009, written by writers of color depicting contemporary life in the United States of America as experienced by people of color.

How Are Winners Selected?
Books submitted will be evaluated using a point system for:
Originality
Character development
Plot development
Age-appropriate writing style
Authentic depiction of life by people of color

Finalists in each category will be announced on February 15, 2010. Winners will be announced and will receive their awards on Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Books by the Bay Multicultural Literary Conference's Awards Banquet.

Best Young Adult - Non-Fiction
Best New Author
Best Illustrator

Best Family / Relationship
Best Romance
Best Science Fiction / Fantasy
Best Suspense / Thriller
Best Fiction - Other
Best New Author


Adult Non-Fiction:

Best Autobiography / Biography
Best Business / Finance
Best Cookbook
Best Inspirational / Spiritual
Best Poetry
Best Self Help
Best Non-Fiction - Other
Best New Author

Submission Guidelines:
Submit three copies of each title for each category entered. Print and complete the Submission Form. Entry fee per title per catergory is $40.00 ($25.00 if submitted prior to November 15, 2009), and should be paid by check or money order made payable to MLAG or online via Google Checkout link below for credit card payments. Mail the submission form, books, and payment (if applicable) to:

The deadline for submision is December 15, 2009.

Books will not be returned. One copy of each book submitted will be retained by MLAG as part of our library. Each additional copy will be donated to charity after the 2010 conference.
