Great article. Thanks for sharing.

Before I started getting involved with social groups, it was difficult trying to find books other than street lit. I go into bookstores and that's all I will find in the AA section. I don't have a problem with street lit, but sometimes I'm looking for something that's different, be it: scifi, mystery, suspense or thriller featuring AA's. Thank goodness to groups like Black Authors Showcase, Black Writers Space and Black Science Fiction Society.

I've always loved otherworldly plots whether in books, movies or on TV. That's why I write what I love. So glad to see the speculative fiction genre getting the attention it deserves.

Blacksciencefictionsociety.com also opened a store for Black speculative authors.
Ecbacc hosts a convention every year in Philly with a heavy emphasis on spec creators. They're website is: Ecbacc.com
PurpleMag.com publishes Modern Myth (spec fiction) for people of color in each issue since '06, and recommends books through the ConsciousInk movement (on-site).

I hope there will be or is a speculative fiction podcast that people can tune into also. If anyone knows of one can you post it? I will gladly spread the word on any Speculative media gems and resources I learn of. We definitely need to know where to go to find our work, as the mainstream gives very little shine to the works of original peoples.

There are alot of resources out there, though.

We devote the entire month of October to speculative fiction here at the BAS. We have an end of month show with interviews with the highlighted authors. You can check out the last one (episode 10) at:

Excellent!
It's amazing how much is out there that we don't know about.
This will change of course. We're all spreading the word.
I will definitely write about this, and check in during October this year.

Yep, the power of "facts" on the internet. Ain't it grand? People take forwards as gospel. Do you all also believe that Barack Obama shouldn't be president because he's not an American citizen? It' says he's not on the internet! I kinda wanted this…
