October is Speculative Fiction Month on the Black Author Showcase

Next month we will focus on all things speculative in writings from the African Diaspora.
What is Speculative Fiction? It is writing that has elements of the fantastic, other worldly, and Science Fiction or covers forms of beyond reality fiction - horror, super heroes, magic, and alternative history. What if . . . ?
Writers - if you would like to be featured on the Main page with your title and short bio with links to your site and/or book storefront for a day, please contact me. I hope to find at least 30 members that I can feature each day on the site.

Readers - You can contribute by sending in a list of your favorite spec fiction books and we will post your choices on the Main page.

In the last Wednesday of the month at 7:30 to 9:30pm EST, we will have a special Spec Fiction net/talkcast in place of our usual member show. If you would like to join in the conversation, be interviewed, or just participate - please contact Diane as soon as possible. There will also be a simultaneous online chat, so you will be able to ask questions of guests and still have a 'voice' in the conversation even if you don't call in. This should be fun and I'm really looking forward to discovering new works in my favorite genre.

Much Love, Diane Williams www.22ndCenturyPress.com www.blackauthorshowcase.com Online Author Community: http://blackauthors.ning.com "The wise man reads both books and life itself." Lin Yutang (1895-1976)

What's your favorite scifi or horror book of all time? Not based on anything snooty or literary, just what scared the heck out of you while you were reading it?
The Exorcist was the book that scared me the most. Most of Stephen King's books would often make me sleepy.

Yes Sister:) The Exorcist was a beast (pun intended/smile)! It, by Stephen King is also a very frightening book. Forget the movie! It was written in two time periods and actually one of King's most brilliant endeavors.
But for favorites I'd have to say Wild Seed, by Octavia Butler for scifi, and The Good House for horror (it scared the crap of me/ smile) by Tananarive Due.

Hi Diane,

I would like to have my book,"The Shadow Walker Chronicles" featured this month. It contains most of the key elements that you've mentioned. Horror,Science fiction, and Fantasy combined for a white knuckle thrill ride of a reading experience.

Hi! It's apropos (for me) that you should choose October to be Speculative Fiction Month, because the first of October was also the launch date of my new speculative fiction webzine devoted entirely to increasing and promoting diversity in the genre, combatting stereotypes and creating a venue for the expression of under-represented voices. We are always looking for speculative fiction by authors of color- new authors, established authors, unpublished stories or reprints. We are a paying market, and can be found at http://www.expandedhorizons.net.

Thank you!

Yep, the power of "facts" on the internet. Ain't it grand? People take forwards as gospel. Do you all also believe that Barack Obama shouldn't be president because he's not an American citizen? It' says he's not on the internet! I kinda wanted this…
