Black Author Showcase

Agents of Literary Change

We all know that the only way to sell books and make those high numbers publishers love to see is to market, promote and market some more. I have joined multiple social groups, I have 2 myspace pages, I leave flyers and book marks everywhere I go. I have taken advantage of every blogtalkradio program that would have me. My face is out and about and so is The Boss.

However, I'm running out of marketing ideas. Being a starving artist, I can only buy so many promotional items, virtual tours and advertising spaces.
If you have any ideas or suggestions that might help me or anyone in my shoes, please share.
Thanks,
Tysha

Become a media expert on the subject you are writin about. for instance lets your book is on domestic violence partner with/volunteer with an organization that does DV Counseling or Support and then go back around the same circuit or circle of blogs, blogtalkradio shows(that dont charge), but dont talk about your book talk about your new chosen cause then blog about it a lot. stats, cases, once again become a media expert on the subject.

You could partner with other authors who are going to other book fairs and pay them $10 or something to bring your book marks with them.

BookClubs - reach out to each one personally you can goto our bookclub myspace page and see most of the ones online - http://www.myspace.com/bmenbookclub try and reach each one personally not through just email. Find out what you need to do to get reviewed are they aware of you - remain humble through this process you are going to receive maybe not so kind reception but i am sure you will be successful

Lastly being willing to promote someone's events always works for instance let's say you offered Lissa Woodson to help her with online promotions of her yearly event www.thecavalcadeof authors.com that may increase your network and reach...

yup what my partner said LOL but seriously are you fully fully promoted really - meaning seriously examine where you maybe weak at in your own hometown have you been to the churches, mosques, you may not feel welcome because of your books content but you could use that as an opening -- how about the young urban professional or yuppy side of town are you well known there? Does all the radio stations in your area know you by face or name? Start to really try to replant seeds and replant seeds and then harvest them. If you are well known at home what about next 2 states East and West of your state. Once again create a formulaic plan something that can be done over and over again.

Martin loves to say template it! I totally agree create template that will work anywhere you are trying to market.

another thing just came to me have you moved outside your genre when it comes to blogtatkradio shows ?? for instance -http://www.blogtalkradio.com/poethicsoul and they have a ning social network - http://poethicsoul.ning.com/they have a huge following and also Queen Unique blogtalkradio show - http://www.blogtalkradio.com/queenunique you may have to write some poetry but this is all about you being able to market more effectively
without any money being spent or very low cost. Please post your results or progress....
