Black Author Showcase

Agents of Literary Change

Do you have a story, essay, novel chapter/excerpt, or poem honoring black males? In the month of June, a different member work will be featured on the Main page of the Black Author Showcase each day to honor our men and fathers.

The stories can be written by men or women and can be about boys, teens, young adults, fathers, uncles, friends - any black males. The pieces can be of any genre or subject (as pertaining to black men) - we would like to highlight the diversity of black writers and their subjects.

Thirty stories will be chosen. You may submit multiple works.
Send inquiries to: info@blackauthorshowcase.com

There will also be a call-in podcast interview with the participating writers the third week of June.

I am not clear as to the guidelines of this project but if the guide lines are 30 stories, essay's, novels chapter/excerpt, or poems about 30 non-fiction black men in real-time and not 30 ficticious or 30 black men from the slave or civil rights era, this project ought to be an interesting revelation to us all, especially me. I will be paying close attention to this project.

To start you off in the right direction I suggest interviewing Lee Green owner of Black Business Space. blackbusinesspace.com

Tell him Enoch Mubarak sent you.

As I said, "story, essay, novel chapter/excerpt, or poem ". Novels are obviously fiction. However letters, stories or essays do not have to be fiction based. I won't be interviewing anyone personally - that is for the individual writer. We want original content - new writing. It can be historical or modern, fictitious or not, that doesn't matter. It just needs to honor the black male AND be a good read.

BTW, Lee Green is a long-time business associate and friend. In fact, he is the reason I chose Ning for the community.

Great idea, Diane! I would like to remind members about using the "Flash Fiction" format. Flash fiction is fiction characterized by its extreme brevity. While there is no universally accepted exact word limit, generally a short story is considered to constitute flash fiction if it is less than 1,000–2,000 words long, and most flash-fiction pieces are between 250 and 1,000 words long. (By contrast, "traditional" short stories range from 2,000 words to upwards of 20,000, and are mainly between 3,000 and 10,000 words long; they are distinguished from longer forms, such as the novel and novella, primarily by the intent that they be read in a single sitting.)
