Self Publishing

I am now ready to publish my second book and would like to self publish this time. I used a POD company in the past and although they do good work, I'm having to purchase my own books and then sell them which gives me very little profit. Any tips?

Hi Savannah,

I'd like to suggest that you put on your business
minded hat.

Just like any other business you have to write out your
steps and processes. And as a published author you
are familiar with what is needed to have a book published.

Once you've completed your list then ask the right
question: What do I need to do? The How, When, Where,
and Why will follow suite.

* So research printers (request samples)
* Research book cover designers
* Obtain your business license
* Obtain your ISBN
* Be sure you have obtained the right for any quotes (lyrics. . .)
... then more.

Oh, check out Dan Poynter's book on the how to
of becoming a publisher.

I find it fulfilling! ;o)

Thanks so much, that is great advice. I hope to one day help other up and coming authors get their work published as well. So, a business plan will be most valuable. What about an accountant/book keeper, would you recommend that as well?

Thanks for being so helpful to me on this new journey. It is such a blessing to have authors like you who are willing to mentor. I'll check that book out and the CPA as well. I also plan to look into my business lic. within the next couple of weeks.
