Who, in this community, has self-published their own book from beginning to end, including the cover design?

Thank you. I also heard of a company called United Graphics that is supposed to be quite good. I have decided that for my next project, I'm going to cut out the publisher and go straight to the printer. I do my own layout and editing anyway....

Vickie,

Smart lady. I am comtemplating doing the same thing with my next book, and colorhousegraphics from Grand Rapids MI, all they do is print books and they have their book cover design people as well as distribution sources.

Vickie,

I'm not sure if this question is still pertinent however, I can attest to the fact that I self-published my book from beginning to end, including cover design and manuscript pagination. See the blog "Self Publishing with Lulu" on my BAS page.

OK...will do. I had considered Lulu too.

I'm about one draft away from accomplishing most of that, although the cover was designed by a professional artist based on my concept.

Mr. Cranston,

You are making progress, keep working and you will see your work in print and that's a wonderful feeling. I pray God's blessings on you and all you do.

In Christ Jesus,

I self-published using the services of RJ Communications, and they are the best. Some other folk here mentioned the other well-known printing companies, but trust me, RJ is the best! I did a lot of research and compared prices and services, and RJ gave me the best quality for my money. Plus, there's no hard sell like with other companies. This is one reason I knew I could trust them. The personalized service was excellent! People look at my book cover and have no clue it's self-published!

I self published my debut novel "Family Secrets Lies & Alibi's" in December 2007. After being scammed out of a good amount of money and receiving the letters that touched the format of the query letter instead of truly the writing of the novel, I decided that self-publishing was the answer. I had a need not only to recoup my money but touch the internal emotions that said this is a good, well written book. It wasn't until recently that I was informed that I had done what was considered "total" self publishing. A lot of people get other companies or people to handle on or two parts of self publishing....for a long time and obvious reasons I didn't trust those I didn't really know regardless of the background of the company. I did it all myself and monitored projects that I couldn't perform myself. I found a company to take my cover picture and set up the cover according to the guidelines of a digital printer. I am doing the marketing, promoting, and distribution. I've done well in comparison to what I've seen others in the same time frame and because I have slowed my pace to learning, understanding and then executing it has become rewarding. I haven't been picked up by the big publishing house or sought by any agents however, I do have a publicist and more knowledge about the path of writing, publishing and distributing. Self-publishing has its downfalls because the new author has the frustrations of learning and trying to produce simultaneously but patience has taught me that it all comes together.
